Off the Shelf: May's "Library Reads" List is Available

By Sharon Saye on April 28, 2021 from Off the Shelf

The Library Reads list for May is now available.

This is a list of books recommended by librarians from across the country of what books to look forward to in the next month.  These books are published throughout the month of May and some are not available yet.  You can place holds on these books in advance by using the online function just remember that many will not hit libraries until the end of the month.
The number one book is a romance: Emily Henry’s “People We Meet on Vacation.”  Poppy and her best friend, Alex, have been sharing vacations for years, but a falling out puts an end to that, but Poppy cannot let their friendship go and persuades him to take one last vacation.   This is a romance, what do you think happens?

“Arsenic and Adobo” by Mia P. Manansala combines cooking with murder when Lila returns home to help her family’s Filipino restaurant.  Plagued by an ex-boyfriend who is a book blogger, she invites him to lunch only to have him keel over dead in the dessert.  The prime suspect, Lila must contend with a failing business and a murder investigation.

Pam Jenoff’s “The Woman with the Blue Star” is a World War II historical novel about Jewish families who use the sewers to escape persecution.  Stacy Abrams’ novel, “While Justice Sleeps,” involves a Supreme Court Justice in a coma who named someone other than his wife as his guardian.

“Talk Bookish to Me” by Kate Bromley, “The Newcomer” by Mary Kay Andrews, “The Invisible Husband of Frick Island” by Colleen Oakley, “The Bookshop of Second Chances” by Jackie Fraser, “The Gungle” by Steven Rowley and “Mary Jane” by Jessica Anya Bleu round out the top ten list that librarians recommend for May.

Library Reads also has a Hall of Fame author list that honors authors who have previously appeared on the lists; their latest books include: “Hour of the Witch” by Chris Bohjalian, “How to Find a Princess” by Alyssa Cole, “Local Woman Missing” by Mary Kupica, “Hail Mary” by Andy Weir and “Soulmate Equation” by Christina Lauren.
