The Harrison County Community Educational Outreach Service organization and the West Virginia University Extension took time to honor the Trinity CEOS for serving its community for 100 years.
In the beginning (1925) The Trinity Farm Women’s Club was formed which became the (Trinity Home Demonstration Club in the 1950’ s followed by the Trinity Extension Homemakers in 1968 and now the current Trinity CEOS).
The Trinity Farm Women’s Club was organized in February 1925. The first meeting was held at the home of Willie and Freda Lawson. After the meeting, some of the women went to the home of Carmen Anderson to see her new baby girl (Gertrude Anderson Flowers), born February 17, 1925. They lived across the road from Lawson’s.
Mrs. John G. Lang was the one who organized the club. In 1928, she was elected County President of the Organization. She served (2) terms, 1928 and again in 1937. She then served as State President from 1933-1935
Miss Mabel Hiller was the County Extension Agent from 1925 to 1965.
When club was formed, they met on Thursdays. They always had day meetings because the members traveled on horseback and in buggies to the meetings. They ate dinner at the home they met in.
One time they met at Phebe Tysons. It was on a dirt road. They decided to meet at night this time and no one took a light, so they had to feel their way back in the dark.
We continued to meet in members’ homes through the 1970’s. The Community housed a one room schoolhouse and in the 1980’s renovations were made, and the Club begin meeting at the “Trinity Community Building”. In 2021, the one room schoolhouse was replaced with our current building that was generously donated in memory of our original president, Mrs. John Lang and her family by the Andy Lang Family.
At our 100th anniversary celebration, we paid tribute to our 53 deceased members. These members along with our 41 current members have shared a unique sense of community pride while sharing food, fellowship and learning from each other. We carry on our founder’s legacy by continuing to contribute volunteer hours to our community and county, supporting our youth and taking care of our community.
Our current youngest member is the fifth generation from her family in our organization and our current Co-Presidents are the fourth generation from their family. We have great pride in continuing what Mrs. Lang started a century ago.
Editor's Note: Members of the Trinity CEOS were honored at the annual Harrison County Community Educational Outreach Service organization’s Achievement Day. The Trinity club has served the community and the county for 100 years.
