UHC, WVU Medicine Children's Both Named Among America's Best Maternity Hospitals

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 28, 2026

MORGANTOWN – WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital in Morgantown and WVU Medicine United Hospital Center in Bridgeport have been named to Newsweek’s 2026 list of “America’s Best Maternity Hospitals.”

“This recognition shows our commitment to providing high-quality care and improving the experience for the patients and families we serve,” Michael A. Grace, Ed.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.H.E., president and CEO of WVU Hospitals and senior vice president and COO of the WVU Health System, said. “We are proud of our physicians, advanced practice providers, and care team members who provide a high-quality, patient-centered experience each day.”

The rankings are based on three data sources: a nationwide online survey of hospital managers and maternity health care professionals, including neonatal providers and OB-GYNs; medical key performance indicator data; and patient satisfaction scores.

“Being named one of America's Best Maternity Hospitals for 2026 confirms that our labor and delivery teams provide top-tier care that rivals any in the nation,” David F. Hess, M.D.,?president and CEO of United Hospital Center and central region president for the WVU Health System, said.

“This award is a direct reflection of the dedication, skill, and compassion of our doctors, nurses, and staff who work diligently to ensure the best possible outcomes for mothers and babies in North Central West Virginia.”

WVU Medicine is home to some of the region’s most comprehensive OB-GYN teams and services. Board-certified specialists provide patients with world-class women’s health services. Providers deliver obstetric and gynecologic care throughout West Virginia and the surrounding region so patients can stay close to home. WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s is home to the area’s largest Maternal-Fetal Medicine Program that offers specialized care for high-risk pregnancies.

“Our maternity and newborn care teams are here for support through every step of the pregnancy and birth experience,” Amy L. Bush, B.S.N., M.B.A., R.N., C.N.O.R., chief administrative officer of WVU Hospitals, said. “Our goal is to ensure the health of mothers and babies. This recognition highlights the compassion and expertise our teams bring to that mission while creating a safe and supportive environment as we take care of our youngest patients and their families.”

Hospitals named as one of “America’s Best Maternity Hospitals” provide exceptional care throughout the pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum periods.
