Weekend Drive Through Live Nativity Scene is Set for Middleville Baptist Church to Celebrate the Season

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 03, 2023

Celebrate the Christmas season with a drive through “Bethlehem.” A live nativity will be presented at Middleville Baptist Church, Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, from 6-8 p.m. There is no charge for the event.

Visitors can drive through “Bethlehem” and see the Christmas story of Jesus’ birth. Background Christmas music will play softly to set the scene, while church members – young and old – dressed in costumes, transform into angels, shepherds, Wise Men, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, and more.

“This nativity is a much-needed break from the busyness and distractions of the season,” said volunteer Jennifer Biller.

“Society has become so focused on the perfect decorations and gifts, Christmas parties, school events, dinner prep, and so much more, that it’s easy to lose what the true meaning of Christmas is all about,” Biller said. “There has never been an event in history greater than Jesus Christ being born in a stable in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago, and that’s why we celebrate Christmas.”

Each Biblical scene has scripture about the event being depicted and chronologically leads up to the birth of Christ. Scenes, props, and lighting improvements have been added in the past few years. There is also a lively marketplace, where vendors show off their wares. The live animals are always a favorite attraction of visitors.

This is the 23rd year Middleville Baptist has presented the live nativity to bring the Christmas story alive. Event Coordinator Gina Sharps is one of the greeters and sees many of the same faces every year in the drive-through.

“Families have made this part of their Christmas tradition, and they look forward to it every year,” Sharps said. “If you’ve never had a chance to experience the magic of a live nativity, please join us!”

Middleville Baptist Church is located at 1327 Middleville Road in Bridgeport, approximately one mile off U.S. Route 50. For more information, contact Gina Sharps at (304)-276-0572 or Jennifer Biller at (304)-669-9993.
