This Year's Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K to Feature Kids K for First Time; Race Set for June 8

By Chris Johnson on March 06, 2024

Since its inception 14 years ago, organizers of the Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K have thrived to not only make their event a memorable one, but one that is always looking for ways to be even better.

This year’s race will be on June 8 and for the first time it will feature a Kids K.

“We’re really excited about it,” race coordinator Ashley Hotsinpiller said. “This is absolutely one of the things that has always been on the radar. It’s something that has come up over the years as we have planned but we only have so much manpower getting some things in place.

“We brought on a few new committee members this year and it was like, ‘This is the time’ and they are the perfect people to help with this endeavor. I’m a firm believer in timing. And (the Kids K) just felt like this is the perfect time, the perfect year to bring it in.”

The Kids K will be open to all children 12 and under. The registration fee is $10. Each registration includes a bib, award and a shirt that will feature a new design specific to the Kids K.

Hotsinpiller said another surprise element for the Kids K is in the works and more details about that will be available in the upcoming weeks.

In addition to the Kids K, all the family-friendly activities like face painting will be back in June as well.

"We are all about family," Hotsinpiller said. "Providing a great event for families is something that is important to all of us."

Registration for the Kids K as well as the regular 5K and virtual race are now open at https://www.raceentry.com/.../derek.../2024/register

As of Tuesday, virtual racers from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Saudia Arabia have already signed up.

Editor's note: Submitted photo of some of the junior committe members for the Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K who are excited about the introduction of a Kids K for this year's race.
