Time Travel: 1980s' Bridgeport School Ribbon Cutting and a Aerial Look at North View from Rolland Glass

By Dick Duez on November 19, 2023 from History Blog

Anyone know any of the individuals pictured here for this ribbon-cutting event back on Feb. 28, 1985 for students with special needs in the community? It appears to be at the old site of Johnson Elementary School. If you know more details, please include them in the comments below.
This picture from the Batch Towers at Rolland Glass in May of 1946 shows some old cars lined up along what is today Williams Avenue in the North View section of Clarksburg.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net.

Good morning, Mr. Duez! The group photo was taken at Johnson Elementary School. Although I can't name all of those folks, I do know several. On the left is James L. Reaser who was a Harrison County Board of Education member. Next to Mr. Reaser is Dennis Stromberg who was Assistant Principal at the school. To his left holding onto the wheelchair is Myra Townsend, the Principal of Johnson Elementary School. I don't know the three ladies behind Ms. Townsend. On the other side of the wheelchair is Christine McCuskey, HCBOE member. The five gentlemen on the right are John Rice, also a school board member, Don Carr, Assistant Superintendent of HCS, Frank Perri, school board member, William Ashcraft, also an Assistant Superintendent, and John T. Babyak who was HCS Elementary School Supervisor. I'm sorry I can't identify more of the ladies in the photo. Also, that you for your contribution to Connect-Bridgeport! I look forward to seeing the photos...always interesting! Carl Friebel, Stella, NC Retired HCS Superintendent
