Time Travel: Flood of 1985 Near Virginia Avenue and Horse and Buggy Purchases at 1900s Shinnston Store

Simpson Creek, as history has shown us many times, doesn't always stay inside the banks. This is perhaps one of the worst ever from the mid 1980s flood that laid waste to many parts of West Virginia. The Bowstring Bridge can be seen in the background with water up to the top of it. This photo was taken in October of 1985.
This photo is from around the 1900s and is of the Rough and Dressed Lumber business in Shinnston. It's part of the Harold Ashby Short Collection and is on Station Street. As the picture shows, you could get tin roofing, cedar shingles, paints, varnishes and more as the locatioon.
