Time Travel: Girls Soccer at Bridgeport High School in 2001 and Going Back Decades to Cool Springs Park

By Dick Duez on September 01, 2024 from History Blog

This submitted photo shows the 2001 Bridgeport High School girls soccer team. The individual submitting the photo did not have first names so perhaps you can assist with the names by adding them in the comment section below. Here's what we do have of those pictured - and that is the name of the team members shown in no particular order. The team included J. Crawford, M. Cowley, J. Manning, S. Sellas, S. Sigler, K. Miller, T. Webster, L. Dieringer, J. Reed, Coach Ian McAra, D. Reif, L. Reed, M. Devericks, K. Lopez, M. Sleeth, S. Snider, J. Mayfield, M.B. Wilson, R. Proctor, A. BIggs, T. Sparks, M. Matz, V. Ferrari, M. Nicas, A. Formica, L. Snider, A. Dieringer, V. Daniels, T. Nichols, B. Morphis, S. Abbate, J. Lyle, J. Palmer, E. Carmichael, and L. Clevenger.
If this looks familiar, there's a good reason for it. Cool Springs Park is still open today in Rowlesrburg in Preston County and can be reached by traveling on U.S. 50 East on Bridgeport to get there. The site was a stop for tourists as well as many locals looking to get away for an afternoon road trip.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dickdo@citynet.net
