BHS Alumni & Friends Foundation to Hold Hall of Fame Banquet; Tickets for Event are Now Available

By Julie Perine on August 26, 2023

Honoring 2023 inductees Jon Griffith, Gregory Brown, Phil Dye, and past Lt. Col. Frank Jenio, Jr., the Bridgeport High School Alumni & Friends Hall of Fame Banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at the “O” by Oliverio’s.

Social hour starts at 6 p.m. with dinner and introductions of inductees beginning at 7 p.m.

The Hall of Fame is open to BHS graduates and non-BHS graduates. Alumnae must have benefited society or the community in which they live, excelled in their chosen field, or directly contributed to BHS through time or talent. Those not graduating from BHS must have directly benefited BHS through time or talent. Nominees are accepted by the public and voted upon by BHS Alumni & Friends Foundation board of directors.

Griffith is a Bridgeport City Council member and former BHS track coach. Brown was the BHS Theatre director for several years. Dye is a former Bridgeport Firefighter and fire prevention educator, as well as crosswalk guard for Simpson Elementary School. Jenio was commander of the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“This year’s honorees have shown what it means to have a sense of pride in their community and nation – to volunteer their talents, their time for the betterment of our neighborhoods and world,” said Board President Teresa Lunsford.

More information on this year’s Hall of Fame members will be shared in the weeks leading up to the Oct. 7 banquet. The banquet and all fundraisers held throughout the year benefit the foundation's scholarship fund, which has provided thousands of dollars to BHS seniors to be used toward their higher education goals.

Located on Route 58 between Bridgeport and Anmoore, The “O” by Oliverio’s is owned and managed by Oliverio family who also own and operate Oliverio’s Ristorante on Main Street, Bridgeport. The menu will feature an Italian entree, sides, salad, and bread. Cake will also be served. Tickets are $60 each. To purchase, contact Lunsford at 304-709-8875 or bhs1alumni@gmail.com.

By serving as sponsors, generous local businesses enable the foundation to raise more money through the Hall of Fame Banquet. Other businesses which would like to get on board may contact Lunsford or any board member. See sponsorship tiers and what each level includes HERE.

The inductees will also be honored at the Friday, Oct. 6 BHS football game at Wayne Jamison Field.
