Car Fire on Interstate 79 Leaves Vehicle Total Loss

By Jeff Toquinto on January 16, 2019

Members of the Bridgeport Fire Department were greeted with some bad news when they arrived on Interstate 79 just before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday for a call of a car fire. Upon arrival, the car was fully involved.

There was some good news according to Lt. Josh Keough. Keough said there were no injuries and the car was empty at the time it was completely up in flames.

“By the time we arrived, the car was completely on fire and there was no one inside the car and that’s a good thing,” said Keough. “The car was a total loss.”

Due to the significant amount of damage, Keough wasn’t sure exactly what type of car caught on fire. He believes it was a Subaru.

The call came into the Harrison County 911 center at 5:29 p.m. The vehicle fire occurred near the I-79 126 mile marker.

The fire to the car took place on the median. Units responded from the Bridgeport Fire Department substation located on Jerry Dove Drive. No EMS arrived on the scene, said Keough.
