Fairmont Federal Credit Union Steps up with Donation to Inclusive Playground in Memory of Ivan Gonzalez

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 09, 2024

The City of Bridgeport and The Friends of Bridgeport Recreation Inc. are excited to announce another donor for the Medbrook Children’s Charity Inclusive Playground Project. Fairmont Federal Credit Union has graciously stepped up to donate $1,939 to bring Inclusive Play to Bridgeport. Fairmont Federal Credit Union was inspired to be involved via the Ivan’s Smile program, an initiative to help fund the Playground in memory of 7-year-old Ivan Gonzalez.

The $1,939 donation is significant to the year Fairmont Federal Credit Union was established.  Fairmont Federal Credit Union has been proudly serving our communities since 1939, this year marks 85 years of fulfilling the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.
The check presentation was made Wednesday afternoon at the site of the future playground - just outside Citynet Center at The Bridge Sports Complex.

The playground committee wishes to thank the Fairmont Federal Credit Union for their generous donation and continuing to support and enhance our community. With over $1,000,000.00 raised for the playground, the groundbreaking will begin March 2024 with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for late Summer 2024.

The Medbrook Children’s Charity Inclusive Playground is a grassroots program aimed at creating an all-inclusive play space that will serve all children in our region regardless of their abilities. We have consulted with industry experts to create opportunities while removing barriers for play. This playground will allow children with disabilities to play alongside their friends and family to create a truly inclusive environment.

The Friends of Bridgeport Recreation Inc. is a 501c3 charitable organization aimed at providing positive programs and activities for recreation and leisure in a manner which promotes health, wellness, community, and lasting memories. Any gifts made are tax-deductible as allowed by law. For more information and to learn how you or your business can donate to make this incredible project a reality, please visit www.friendsofbridgeportrec.com or call 304-842-8240.
