Harrison County Schools Provides New Information on Cybersecurity Incident that Took Place January 18

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 17, 2025

FROM HARRISON COUNTY SCHOOLS

As you know, Harrison County experienced a cyber security incident on January 18, 2025, which caused a temporary network outage throughout the District. We immediately partnered with law enforcement and cybersecurity and forensic teams to investigate the scope of the incident and assess the potential risk to our employees and students.

One of the main objectives of our investigation is to identify whether the personal information of our students or employees was compromised. We understand that answering this question for our community is critical. Our investigation has determined that personal information of some current and past employees was likely involved. Therefore, we will be sending a letter next week to those employees that we believe were impacted by this incident, and we will be providing credit monitoring and identity protection services.

At this point, the investigation is ongoing, and it is too early to make any conclusions regarding the potential compromise of student personal information. We are conducting a thorough analysis of the compromised data to determine the exact extent of what and whose information is potentially involved, which will take time to complete. We recognize this incident has caused concern for many and are working to get the answers you deserve as soon as we can. If we identify that student personal information was compromised, we will notify those students directly.

Thank you all for supporting one another through this situation, and we ask that you continue to support one another by keeping the information clear and to what is confirmed. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns that have not been addressed. We are in this together and will get out of this together.
