Local Man who Owned and Operated Business for 60 Years, Army Veteran, William Archie Burnside, Passes

William Archie Burnside, 81, of Salem, WV, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at his residence following an extended illness.
 
He was born in Wolf Summitt, on August 31, 1943, a son of the late Hiram J. and Vade M Hutson Burnside.
 
Mr. Burnside was married on September 24, 1989, to Denise Freeman Burnside, who resides at their home in Salem.
 
He is also survived by two sons, William J. Burnside and wife Mary Teressa of Clarksburg, Leonard A. Leps and companion Candice of Jarvisville; and six grandchildren, Alex Burnside and fiancé Sara, Sarah Workman, A.J. Fowler, Luke Humphrey, Sapphire Jones and Hannah Cantero.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Victoria Leps.
 
William was a veteran in the US Army during the Vietnam era. He retired after 60 years as the owner and operator of Burnside Sawmill.
 
Mr. Burnside was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, a member of Harrison Rural Electric where he was a former member of the board and secretary. He was a member of the WV Forestry Association and the WV Parents Association. Above all, he was committed to his family and his community.
 
Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Elizabeth Jarrett presiding. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church Cemetery.
