Long-Time Clarksburg Convenience Store has Closed

By Jeff Toquinto on April 02, 2024

A long-time presence on Milford Street in Clarksburg has closed all of its operations after making a major change more than a year ago.
The Rich In a Flash Convenience Store shut its doors to business on March 19 with little fanfare. A week later, a customer pulled off of Milford Street while heading toward downtown Clarksburg to be greeted by windows covered in Brown paper and signs posted across the glass stating "we're closed." The "Rich" portion on the building was also painted over.

For long-time usesrs of the store, the closing was a disappointment.

“First the gas, now this,” said Linda Johnson, who said she travels Route 19 regularly to avoid interstate traffic. “I used to stop her for gas and now stopped for lottery tickets, but I guess not anymore.”

A United States Postal Service worker walked by as she was looking into the windows. She asked if he knew anything about it.
He said, "just that it closed March 19."

The closure comes on the heels of the gas tanks being removed sometime well before 2024. Many in the neighborhood initially believed the tanks were being replaced only to learn later that the tanks, and related gasoline service, were being removed.

The removal of the tanks led to fears that the long-time store would eventually close. Those fears came to fruition last month.

Attempts to reach Rich’s corporate office to determine the reason for closing, future use of property, and how long they were at that location were unsuccessful. The store's physical address was 512 Milford Street, Clarksburg.

Editor's Note: Photo at top shows the building with the "Closed" signs taped to them. Bottom image shows the sign that greeted visitors for decades to the store.
