Morgantown Not Alone with Reptile Issues as Officers in Pleasants County Capture 3.5-Foot Alligator

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on August 17, 2019

While the Morgantown area has been on the lookout for a missing python, it appears there are other reptiles on loose in the state. Although not in our area, Pleasants County had a unique situation evolve Thursday.

According to the Pleasants County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, a Thursday night phone call for an alligator along one of the county's roadway was not a joke.

Instead, officers ended up arriving onto a road known as Middle Island Creek Road and saw the call was not a prank.

Here's part of the Facebook post from the Pleasants County Page.

"Deputy Lauer and Sgt Reed (SMPD) arrived on scene and secured the rouge gator in a way the would have made Steve Irwin (the crocodile hunter) proud. The gator was approximately 3 1/2 feet long. Just goes to show, you never know what each day will bring in a career in law enforcement.

"(Update) Our office has been in contact with the Mountain State Herpetological Society out of Charleston and have made arraignments for the gator to be transferred into their custody in wait of being transported to the Reptile Lagoon Sanctuary in South Carolina."
