UPDATE: Wendy's at White Oaks opened its doors Friday, Sept.10.
Original story: Running slightly behind schedule, the new Wendy’s restaurant at Bridgeport’s White Oaks started training employees Wednesday.
“We had to wait for a transformer to come in for the electric,” said Karen Tanner, Director of Operations for Primary Aim LLC, owner of area Wendy’s stores.
Tanner said construction is close to complete and though an opening date is not certain, she estimates it will be the second or third week of September.
“We still have some obstacles to get through, things that need hooked up and parts that need to come in,” she said.
The New Smart 2.0 Design features a slightly smaller footprint than the Wendy’s restaurant on Emily Drive.
“It’s definitely more ecofriendly with a lot more LED lights and those types of energy saving components,” Tanner said.
The dining room is smaller than stores built in the past, but the drive through is expanded and more efficient.
“As years went by, we figured out that people are utilizing the drive through more and people are dining in less,” Tanner said. “It’s an interstate store (just off I-79 at Jerry Dove Drive) and there are a lot of businesses in that area that will likely utilize the drive through.”
