Off the Shelf: Bridgeport, Clarksburg Libraries Teaming Up to Aid Humane Society for National Pet Month

By Savanna Draper on May 01, 2024 from Off the Shelf

May is National Pet Month! The Bridgeport Public Library and the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library are partnering with the Harrison County Humane Society to bring attention to pets in need. During the month of May, participating libraries will forgive library fees for up to four long lost items (not returned for more than 6 months) to patrons who help us assist the Harrison County Humane Society as a part of our Supporting Pets, Supporting Readers campaign in one of these ways:
  • Visit the Bridgeport Public Library’s Facebook page and share our National Pet Month post. Comment "shared" on our post about National Pet Month.
  • Visit the Bridgeport Public Library’s Facebook page and post a picture of your pet in the comments of the post about National Pet Month.
  • Visit the Bridgeport Public Library and bring an item to donate to the Harrison County Humane Society
The Harrison County Humane Society is accepting donations of Purina Puppy or Kitten Chow (please only donate the Purina brand, as switching brands causes the animals to get upset stomachs,) kitty litter, dog leashes and collars, cat collars, dog or cat toys, dog or cat treats, bleach, laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, paper towels, and trash bags. All items should be in new or unopened condition and can be dropped off at the library.

If we haven’t seen you at the library lately due to fees on your account, we want to fix that! Our Supporting Pets, Supporting Readers campaign not only helps pets in need, but also helps our patrons return to our library with a clear account. The absolute best thing would be if you have found these items and can return them to us.  There are no additional fees (ever!) if items are returned.  We know life gets in the way and sometimes returning the items isn’t possible.  Any of the ways listed above will let us remove charges for four of the items from your account.  We’d be happy to work with you to set up a reasonable payment plan for the remaining items.  Please visit the library in person or call us at 304-842-8248 to talk about your account.

We can’t wait to see how many pets and patrons benefit from Supporting Pets, Supporting Readers! If you have any questions about this campaign, please do not hesitate to reach out.
