Off the Shelf: Fall Weather Not in Forecast, but Library and its Fall Program Schedule Already in Place

By Sharon Saye on September 25, 2019 from Off the Shelf

Even though the weather is hardly fall-like, October is almost upon us and the library’s program schedule and calendar are available at the circulation desks and online.

The book sale takes up the first week of the month and runs through October 5th.  The purpose is to get rid of the boxes of books we have stacked up so you will never beat this price: $1.00 admission fee and then take as much as you want.  Teachers will find loads of books for their classrooms and readers can stock up on fiction including mysteries and romance to get them through the winter months.

The regular eReader Workshop kicks off the month on Tuesday, October 1st at 2 p.m.; registration is required and bring your Kindle, iPad or android device as well as your library card so we can show you how to download eBooks, audiobooks and digital magazines.

Nesting Knitters meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those interested in knitting or crochet.  Colorful Yarns meets on Tuesdays, October 8th and 22nd at 6:30 p.m. for anyone interested in the fabric arts.

Book groups continue all month.  “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng is the choice for the contemporary reading group on Wednesday, Oct. 16th at 4 p.m.  Read in Red, the mystery book group, is reading “If She Knew” by Blake Pierce on Friday, October 25th at noon, and Real Reads is reading “Monique and the Mango Rains” by Kris Holloway.  If you need a copy of a book, please ask Tyler or Joanne.

Movies also continue throughout the month including, “Dark Phoenix” on Monday, October 7th at 6 p.m.,  “Rocketman” on Friday, October 11th at 1 p.m., “Hocus Pocus” on Monday, October 14th at 6 p.m., “Red Joan” on Friday, October 18th at 1 p.m. and “Wild Rose” on Monday, October 21st at 6 p.m.

Seniors can learn about West Virginia’s Wildlife from Wildlife Biologist, Steve Rauch, on Wednesday, October 16th at 2 p.m.   And the WV Raptor Rehabilitation Center will be here on Saturday, October 12th at 2 p.m. to educate participants on the importance of raptors, their environment and their work at the raptor center.  This program is for members of all ages.  Registration is required.

Bookin’ It is scheduled for Tuesdays, October 8 and 22 at 2 p.m.  This event includes easy, low-impact aerobics classes for adults and seniors.  Puzzle fans will want to participate in “Puzzling Puzzles” on Tuesday, October 15th at noon.  You can work on a puzzle by yourself or in a group.  Puzzles uncompleted will be saved until the next puzzling puzzle programs.
