Off the Shelf: Hate to Cook? Love to Cook? Library has Books to Helps those on Both Sides of the Issue

By Sharon Saye on May 05, 2021 from Off the Shelf

Some people hate to cook, some people love to cook. The library has shelves of cookbooks that work for both sides of the issue.

“Easy Home Cooking” by Linda Larsen is the perfect book for people who are busy, but still must get dinner on the table.  It includes over 100 familiar favorites and creative, modern dishes, all of which take only 15 minutes or less to prepare for cooking.  There are recipes for beginner-friendly choices like Chicken Parmesan Sandwiches and Ravioli Lasagna that use everyday ingredients.

There are sections on speedy prep pointers, cooking tips & tricks, and classic & contemporary fare.  From Pecan Pie Bread Pudding to Baked French Toast Sandwiches, “Easy Home Cooking,” lives up to its name.

For those organized folks who have figured out ways to fix dinners ahead, Ashley Christensen and Kaitlyn Goalen offer, “It’s Always Freezer Season.”  This starts off with a chapter on What to Freeze and What Not to Freeze,” followed by a sections on “How to Freeze,” and “How to Unfreeze.”  And then there are the recipes from “Pimento Mac and Cheese Custard” to “Chicken Piccata Farfalle.”  This cookbook is the answer to the constant question, “What’s for dinner?”

For those with a sweet tooth, there is a perfect new book with gorgeous photos, “Even Better Brownies” by Mike Johnson.  This cookbook includes recipes for 50 standout bars for every occasion.  Actually, from the photographs alone, who needs an occasion?  Just read off this list of recipes: Cookies ‘n’ Cream Brownies, Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Cheesecake Bites, Peppermint Mocha Brownies, Cinnamon Roll Blondies, S’mores Bars and Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookie Bars.

Mike Johnson answers the even better question than what’s for dinner with all these possibilities for what’s for dessert.
