Off the Shelf: Holiday Movies? The Library has Plenty

By Savanna Draper on December 11, 2024 from Off the Shelf

‘Tis the season for holiday movies! Host the perfect holiday movie night or marathon at your home with the wide selection of holiday movies from the Bridgeport Public Library. The library has a large collection of all your favorite holiday films. From beloved classics to new releases, we have you covered for your holiday viewing needs. During most of the year, these films are kept in storage, but as soon as December rolls around, you can find them on a special display in the front lobby.

I will highlight some of the most fun holiday movies and collections we have. We have an “Unwrap the Classics” Binge Box that includes six classic holiday movies. A Binge Box is a set of related movies that are perfect for a marathon or snowy weekend. Just like regular DVDs, Binge Boxes can be checked out for two weeks.  “Unwrap the Classics” includes A Christmas Story, It's A Wonderful Life, Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street, The Polar Express, and A Christmas Carol. Doesn’t that sound like a box full of fun?

Another holiday Binge Box, “’Tis the Season Heartwarming Hallmark Movies” contains five holiday Hallmark movies. This set is sure to delight the Hallmark fans! This Binge Box includes Hitched for The Holidays, Ice Sculpture Christmas, Magical Christmas Ornaments, The Nine Lives of Christmas, and Sense Sensibility and Snowmen.

We also have plenty of single-disk holiday DVDs for you to enjoy. Some of the most popular titles include National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Christmas with the Kranks, Elf, Fred Claus, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Nutcracker. Whatever your holiday movie tastes are, we are sure to have something to satisfy.

The library will also be showing holiday movies during the month of December and will have popcorn, snacks, and drinks available. On December 13, there will be a Movie Matinee for adults in the afternoon and then a Family Movie Night perfect for the whole family in the evening. On December 19, we will host a special movie night for teens. More information about these movies can be found on our website at bplwv.org/events.
