Off the Shelf: Library Offering New Outreach Services

By Savanna Draper on May 11, 2022 from Off the Shelf

The Bridgeport Public Library is excited to announce our new outreach services!

Over the past several months we have been exploring different ways we could get out in the community and interact with folks who may not typically come or who are not able to come to the library. In an effort to bring materials, services, and programs to the community, we have started a Homebound Delivery Service, Community Outreach to local facilities and organizations, and visits to the Farmer’s Market.

We will be providing a Homebound Delivery service to Bridgeport residents who are unable to come to the library in person. Books and materials will be chosen by library staff based on the patron’s preferences. Materials will include books, audiobooks, DVDs, Music CDs, puzzles, and more. Patrons will receive 5-10 items in each delivery. To be eligible for this service, patrons must have a library card. If you need to sign up for a library card or if you have questions about this service, please call us at 304-842-8248 or email library@bridgeportwv.com.

The library is also equipped to bring our materials and services to your nursing home, assisted living facility, long-term care facility, retirement home, and other community organizations. We provide books, audiobooks, DVDs/TV series, Music CDs, puzzles, and more depending on what your organization needs or requests. We can also provide some light programming upon request. To be eligible for this service, a facility representative must have a library card and assume any responsibility for materials checked out on that account. To inquire further about this service please call Angela at 304-842-8248 or email aspatafore@bridgeportwv.com.

We are very excited that we will be joining the Bridgeport Farmer’s Market this year as a vendor, beginning on opening day, Sunday, May 15th. On scheduled days throughout the season, we will host a Library Pop-Up, providing marketgoers with opportunities to sign-up for a library card and offering a selection of materials that will be available to borrow, ranging from picture books to cookbooks and more!

Marketgoers can also register and learn more about our Summer Reading Program, as well as register for future library events. We will also be hosting free book giveaways! Be sure to stop by our tent to see us!

If you have questions about any of these services, want to learn more, or would like to apply to be a recipient of these services, please stop by, give us a call, or visit our outreach webpage at bplwv.org/outreach.
