Off the Shelf: New Arrival of Tax Instructions Join Tax Forms and Cookbooks for those Cold Winter Days

By Sharon Saye on February 24, 2021 from Off the Shelf

The library has received several boxes of tax instructions from the IRS.  We had previously received their form booklet which includes the basic 1040 forms as well as the West Virginia State income tax forms booklet which includes both the forms and the instructions.   The IRS is only sending the most basic forms; if you need anything more complicated you will have to go to their website and print them out.

We have placed the forms and booklets on a cart in the front foyer.  Please only take what you need.  The front foyer is open from noon- 8 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and from noon – 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.

For all of you who have been cooking and baking this winter, we have some cookbooks that might provide some inspiration and new recipes.  The Instant Pot is the latest kitchen appliance that everyone has acquired; depending on what brand you purchased, this multicooker combines the advantages of a pressure cooker and a slow cooker.

“Instant Pot Bible: The Next Generation Instant Pot” by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough offers 350 plus completely new recipes that are ready in minutes, use only easy-to-find ingredients, and deliver more delicious results than ever.  They offer recipes for everything from dump dishes, restaurant favorites, desserts, one-pot meals, air-fryers, and pot-in-pot cooking.  The recipes range from Chocolate Fondue, Easy Red Beans & Rice, Falling-off-the Bone Pork Ribs, Overnight French Toast, and Spaghetti for a Crowd.  “Instant Pot Bible” is a great place to learn the possibilities of this new appliance.

“Wintersweet” by Tammy Donroe Inman takes advantage of the season to provide some scrumptious recipes, particularly desserts using pumpkin, apple, and cranberries.  There are also loads of recipes for squashes, parsnips, carrots, citrus as well as nuts, cheese, and chocolate.

Loaded with photographs, this cookbook offers everything from Grapefruit Buttermilk Cake to Tangelo Sorbet, to Southern Pecan Pie and Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Bars.  So, if you are tired of your tried-and-true winter recipes, this is a great cookbook to delve into the new.
