Off the Shelf: Summer Reading Program Ready to Go

By Savanna Draper on June 05, 2024 from Off the Shelf

June is here, and you know what that means! It’s almost time for our Summer Reading Program! The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” Our Summer Reading Kickoff will be on Saturday, June 15 at 3pm in the library parking lot and everyone is welcome to come! Pre-registration for Summer Reading will begin on June 10. The official start date for our Summer Reading Program is June 17. More details will be shared at that time, but for now, let’s adventure into the fun programs we have scheduled for June!

We have a lot of new programs for children, teens, and families this month! Join us for a Family Movie Night on June 7 at 5pm. We will provide popcorn and refreshments at this event. Teens are invited for a “Choose Your Own Adventure” program to explore the House of Danger on June 17 at 3pm. In another new program for teens, Teen ARTventures, we will design our own travel journal on June 18 at 4pm. Come for Tabletop Adventures on June 18 at 5pm where we will be playing role-playing games. Adding to the games, we will host Pokémon™ Adventures on June 19 at 2pm.

We will be using our 3D pens for 3D Doodles on June 19 at 3pm. Another offering of this program is available later in the month. For our June 25 Teen ARTventures we will be painting rocks at 4pm. The Mountaineer Therapy Dogs will join us for Reading to Dogs on June 25 at 6pm. Families are welcome to join us for Family Game Night on June 27 at 5:30pm. A very exciting event, Adventures with a Falconer, will be on June 28 at 4pm. Falcons and Falconers from Laurel Fork Falconry will join us for this special, all-ages event.

Adults have plenty to enjoy this month as well. Our gardening club, Roots & Readers, will continue to meet every Thursday at 11am in our Community Garden. This program is appropriate for all ages. We will be hosting a new and exciting Zumba group fitness class with a guest instructor on June 3 at 5:30pm. Our monthly writing group, The Write Connection, will meet on June 4 at 5:30pm. Join us for a fun movie matinee on June 14 at 1pm. We will provide popcorn and refreshments at this event. Our monthly painting group, Brush Hour, will meet on June 10 at 5:30pm. Join us for our first ever sewing class where we will be sewing toiletry travel wraps on June 17 at 5pm. You don’t want to miss our super interesting presentation, In the Shadow of Big Red Eye Live, on June 25 at 5pm! This program will focus on Bigfoot.

All of these programs and more can be found on our website bplwv.org/events. Some events do require registration. Keep your eyes peeled for more information about our 2024 Summer Reading Program!
