Bridgeport High School baseball standout Steven Lee finalized his plans to continue his career at the next level on Wednesday, signing his Letter of Intent with Salem University.
The signing ceremony took place at BHS in front of a crowd of family, friends, teammates and coaches.
“Their coaching staff is amazing,” Lee said. “The campus is small. I get to interact with everybody. Everything they offered was exactly what I wanted.”
Lee is one of the top pitchers for the Indians and that’s where his focus will be at Salem. The day he signed, he surrendered just one hit in four shutout innings of work with six strikeouts in a 2-0 win against Preston.
“It’s awesome, Lee said of knowing he is going to be a college baseball player. “It’s what I’ve wanted since I was a kid. I’m glad I can keep chasing my dream.”
Lee said he wants to work on his command as well as getting stronger and adding some velocity to his fastball before he begins playing at the next level.
BHS coach Robert Shields said putting in the work to get better has never been an issue for Lee.
“He’s a great kid,” Shields said. “He’s a great teammate. He’s a pleasure to coach. I can’t say enough good things about him. He’s worked really hard in all facets of his game. Ever since he was a sophomore he has done everything he can to find ways to get better.”
Lee said he plans to major in Biology at Salem and specialize in exercise physiology.
