Bridgeport Middle School's Cheer Squad Successfully Defends its Mid-Mountain Conference Championship

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 18, 2023

The Bridgeport Middle School cheer squad won the Mid-Mountain 10 Conference championship on Saturday Nov. 11 at Robert C. Byrd High School. They competed with Lincoln Middle, Buckhannon-Upshur Middle, Robert L. Bland, Taylor County, Mountaineer Middle, and Washington Irving Middle.

Bridgeport took first spot with a score of 87.8. Runner-up was Lincoln Middle followed by WI Middle taking third.

"This group of young ladies worked six days a week for months for one chance at defending their title. They are a true family and put their hearts and souls into their performance on Saturday," Coach Laiken Beckley said. "They were outstanding in every way and nailed their routine. I am so proud to be their coach and to be part of this program. I am also blown away and so grateful for the support from our high school squad as well as our family, friends, and peers! We have a stellar community and it means so much to us all."

The competition squad consisted of 13 members performing a 36 second cheer followed by a 2 minunte and 30 second open routine consisting of level 3, 4, and 5 stunting skills and level 4, 5, and 6 elite level tumbling skills.

Bridgeport defended its title as the squad was the Mid-Mountain 10 champs in 2022.
