Hey Mr. Gainer, I'm so glad you enjoyed the article. Last time Scott and I spoke, I mentioned your incredible football prognostication skills. Everyone knows who the king of the weekly challenge is! I'm doing well; work has taken me back to Hawaii at the moment. Happy Thanksgiving to the entire Gainer clan!

Greetings Steve,
Since I wasn't born I can't say I was there. If you're referring to 1967 as the year you graduated, then it would have been the 1966 season that would have been your senior seasion, which the breakdown of records that the WAJR radio crew has as the 6-3 year in their historical breakdown of records by decades. The 1967 team shows a record not of 4-6, but 0f 3-7 and was coached by Ed Carder in his first year. The team opened 2-0 with wins against Shinnston and Grafton before losing seven straight and ending the year with a win over Roosevelt-Wilson. His next two teams went 8-2 and 9-1 before Wayne Jamison replaced him in 1970. The 8-2 team you mentioned in 1966 is shown as the 1965 team in the historical documents as it has the same record. And if you did graduate in 67, then the three years you would have played would have been the '64, '65, and'66 seasons and - as you stated - those teams did not have a losing season. Hopefully, that clears it up. Best to you and thanks for reading.

Chuck: a fine article. It is always great to read your football stories and go back through many years of BHS football history. Hope all is fine with you and your family. Take care. Your old high school counselor. Hugh Gainer

Chuck, I played QB for the Tribe from 1964-67. We never had a losing season during those three years. 1967 was my senior year and we were 6-3 on thear. Where you got the 4-6 figure must have been in your dreams. 1966 we were 8-2 and ranked at times #2 in the state. This was the best non title team in history of Bridgeport football. So, recheck your figures please . Sincerely, Steve Sandefur, QB 1964-1967
