Trio of Losses against Powerful Opposition Sees BHS Take Tumble in MetroNews Baseball Power Rankings

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 15, 2025

Bridgeport fell two spots in the second week rankings in the MetroNews High School Baseball Power Rankings poll.

The Indians were ranked second last week in Class AAA with a 3-1 record. This week, the Tribe dropped two spots to the fourth spot with a 6-4 record at the time the poll was released.

The MetroNews high school baseball poll is voted upon weekly by a panel of 10 radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia.

BHS’s standard brutal early season schedule saw them drop three out of four contests. The Tribe lost to George Washington, Urbana out of Maryland, and Jefferson. All of the contests were away from Bridgeport’s home field. Bridgeport is currently 7-4 as the Indians took a 15-5 win against Buckhannon-Upshur Monday.

Three teams are currently in front of the Indians. PikeView is No. 1 (11-1), Frankfort is No. 2 (8-2), and Ripley comes in at No. 3 (9-2). Fairmont Senior, at No. 6, and Robert C. Byrd, at No. 8, are both ranked in the top 10 in Class AAA this week.

The Tribe is scheduled to play Frankfort Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. in the McDonald’s Classic.

In Class AAAA, Jefferson is ranked No. 1 (15-2).  Wheeling Central at 10-0 is top ranked in Class AA, while Philip Barbour (8-0) and South Harrison (8-5) ranked No. 3 and No. 9, respectively with Doddridge County (7-4) at the No. 10 slot.

Man is ranked No. 1 in Class A at 9-2. Click HERE for the top 10 in each classification.
