The Grapevine: Weather Concerns with Plants, Facing Pandemic Time Inside, Television Mass and More

By Rosalyn Queen on May 12, 2020 from The Grapevine

The weather is certainly playing tricks on us and it is really affecting our gardening.  First, I received a couple basil plants for Easter and I transplanted them in a larger container filled with soil that I bought at Lowe’s.  After a couple of days they wilted and then died.  Last week I bought two more plants and have not tried to transplant them.  I keep them in a bowl and add water to the roots and they are absolutely beautiful, with nice green leaves which are continuing to grow.  I am going back to Lowe’s and get some suggestions as to how I can successfully transplant them.

The next item of concern is the pansies.  Forgetting it was suppose to frost I left them out on my patio and I do not know if I will be able to save them.  The blossoms are gone but. the leaves seem to still be green. I am going to bring them back in the house and try to nurse them back to healthy plants. This has been a very strange spring but maybe we should wait a while longer before putting plants outdoor.

I hope you are tolerating house confinement better than I am.  Having to stay in for a couple of days might be enjoyable, but what is now 50-plus days is getting unbearable.  I understand that this is what is best for us and if we do not follow the rules, things may get worse.  I encourage you to continue what the authorities are suggesting and hope that we do not have a second round of this virus.  I, too, will take my own advice and try to stay home, it will be hard, but I know it is what is best for me.

I have been watching mass on EWTN on Saturday night and Sunday morning and I am really enjoying them.  Last Saturday the mass came from the Shrine of the Blessed Mother at Lourdes in observance of the anniversary.  It was a beautiful setting and a very meaningful mass.  I am looking forward at getting back to mass at the Immaculate Conception.

I am still enjoying the Keto diet and have lost another pound or two.  I did this to get some weight off my legs and hopefully relieve the neuropathy pain.  I cannot say whether this has worked or not because in the mean time I have had to stop the physical therapy because of the pandemic.  It has not been hard for me to stay on this diet and I hope to continue for a while longer.  Elinda Carson made me a dish of lasagna using zucchini noodles and it really turned out well.  I enjoy the salads and the eggs.  Last night I grilled a filet mingoin.  Other than the one slip with the Easter bread, I have been pretty faithful.  I think that the best thing I can be doing is staying on this diet during this time of confinement, otherwise who knows what size I might be.

I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and I wish a Happy Birthday to Ruby Oldaker.  Keep safe, keep happy and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
