Bridgeport Youth Wrestling Among 40-Plus Teams to Take Part in Bridgeport Brawl at the Mall Event

The Bridgeport Brawl at the Mall was held on Jan.25 at The Meadowbrook Mall. There were six mats ran in the former Elder-Beerman Home Store and a mat at center court for the 1-2 and 3-4 placing matches.
 
This was Bridgeport youth wrestling's very first tournament that they have held. Coach Shawn Taylor led the tea with help of assistant coaches Jim Nolte, Cody Glaspell, Travis Bearden and Russell Talkington.
 
The team has a total of 64 kids registered for the season this year and 47 of them wrestled in the tournament. Team that took part in the tournament included Clarksburg Panthers, Lewis County, Bridgeport Youth Wrestling, Parkerburg Ccougars, Calhoun, University Hawks, West Fairmont, Grafton, Patriot Wrestling Club, Central Silverbacks, Independent, Galaxy, South Harrison, Buckhannon-Upshur, Preston Mat, Huskies (Maryland), Elkins Mat, Frankfort Mat Club, Braxton County, North Marion, Doddridge, Minearl Wells Mustangs, East Fairmont, Lubeck Grizzles, Keyser Storm, Cameron, Shady Springs, Vienna, Warriors, Young Guns, Felix Wrestling, Hillbilly Hammers (Pennsylvania), Ground Zero, Gorilla Grip, Northeast Bradford, Poca, Charleston, Mothman, Gilmer County, Berin, Winfield, and West Greene.
 
There were a total of 42 teams at the tourment with 447 wrestlers register for the event. Plans are under way to have a tournament this December and also in January of 2021 at the Mall.
 
Team trophies were presented as well. First place went to Clarksburg, secone place to Lewis County and third place to Bridgeport Youth Wrestling. The Bridgeport team has placed five times this year.
