Bridgeport Responds to Charles Pointe Structure Fire

By Jeff Toquinto on March 17, 2026

A structure fire at a new Bridgeport development along Jerry Dove Drive did extensive damage to a residential unit under construction, Fire Chief Greg Pigg said.

The call for a structure fire came in 6:51 a.m. today, according to the Harrison County 911 Media Log. Pigg believes the call was the result of individuals driving on Jerry Dove Drive seeing smoke and calling it in.

“Personnel arrived to heavy fire in the unit,” said Pigg.

The unit is part of the new development being down at Charles Pointe called Bella Vista. It is located on the hill directly above the main entrance to Charles Pointe.

“It was a townhome, a multi-family unit, which was under construction. Crews were able to get inside and get a good knock down on the fire,” said Pigg. “It was contained to the townhome in question, but the one adjoining it did suffer smoke and water damage.

“The damage to the unit is extensive on the inside,” Pigg continued. “On the inside, it does not look too bad. The inside is different. That is where you can see the damage.”

As of 10:45 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, March 17, fire crews were still on the scene. The good news is that no one was injured in the blaze.

“We’re doing the mop up work,” said Pigg at 10:30 a.m. today. “Everything has been contained for some time.”

Pigg said the State Fire Marshal’s office will be contacted to do contact. However, he said it appears to be accidental in nature.

Multiple agencies assisted on the scene through mutual aid. The Clarksburg Fire Department along with Nutter Fort, Anmoore, and Spelter were all on the scene. Pigg said Stonewood served as backup handling Bridgeport calls while their crews were tied up.
