Meet BHS Senior Face Madison Seti

Today's featured BHS Senior Face is Madison Seti. Get to know her here:
Hi Madison! Tell me about your involvement at BHS and the community over the past four years.
Bridgeport High School has given me so many opportunities to excel in the classroom and to get involved with extracurriculars and student life.
During all four years of high school, I have been a member of Key Club. My junior year, I served as the club secretary and I chaired a few service projects. From BINGO at Meadowview Manor to committee involvement with Boxing It Up to Give Thanks, the service experiences that I have had with Key Club have helped define me as a person and to become more involved in my community.
I served as the Vice President of the Bridgeport chapter of National Honor Society during my senior year. Cooking for and serving at the mission was my favorite project that NHS took part in this year. I was also honored with a National Semifinalist Scholarship from National Honor Society for my service work!
This year, I have had the opportunity to be one of the two editors of the Ki-Cu-Wa, our school’s yearbook. Working with the staff to create a keepsake so many people will treasure in years to come has been lots of hard work, but overall, a rewarding experience. The entire staff has worked so hard since August to put together a book to be proud of!

Outside of school, I attend Quiet Dell United Methodist Church. I can’t wait to get back to worship once things return to normal and it is safe to do so. I am also an avid 4-Her. Since 2012, I have been involved with 4-H as a 
member of the Quiet Dell Hack-Me-Tacks 4-H Club and have attended Harrison County 4-H camp. Throughout high school, I was President of my 4-H club and was able to lead several community service initiatives, develop leadership and life skills, and make new friends. 4-H camp is the highlight of my summer, so I am super sad we won’t have it this year. I have met some of my best friends through 4-H and have learned a lot about myself. I earned my charting pin last year and was in line to be the chief of my tribe this year.

What are your best high school memories?
So many memories stick out in my mind. The first day of senior year, Friday night lights, Shop for Tots, and so many more.
After these four years, I have realized it is the little things that truly made my time at Bridgeport special. Whether it be goofy waves to friends in the hallway, lunchtime conversations and jokes, or any of the little details in between, the people at BHS made every day special.
What are your plans for college? Where do you plan to go and what do you plan to study?
In the fall, I will be attending West Virginia University as a Bucklew Scholar and a part of the Honors College. I plan 
to dual major in mechanical and aerospace engineering. Hopefully, some of my time in college will be spent studying abroad!

What is your life’s dream? Where do you see yourself 10 or 15 years?
No matter where life takes me, I want my destination to be one where I am happy. In 10 or 15 years, I hope that I have established myself in a career that I enjoy and can grow in. Being a female in a STEM field, I hope to inspire younger girls to pursue their STEM interests and their dreams, no matter how big.
Because community involvement is one of my favorite things, I hope to continue my dedication to service in the future.
I have also always wanted to travel. Hopefully I will be in a position to travel abroad and go on my own adventures. I also want to have pets of my own (I am a dog person!)
5. Did any friends or teachers make a particular impact on you that you will carry with you beyond BHS?
Every single teacher I have had at BHS has impacted me as a person.
Mr. Broslawsky is one of my all-time favorite teachers. His classes were so fun and engaging and they helped me to develop study skills. Even after I was no longer his student, Mr. Broslawsky continued to root for my success.
Mr. Howard helped me to realize that I wanted to be an engineer. He genuinely cares about each and every one of his students and does everything in his power to help them understand the material and to succeed in his class.
Mrs. Cox has been there for me throughout my four years of high school as both a teacher and a Key Club advisor. She has helped me to better myself as a student and a leader and has continuously supported my success.
Mrs. Evans definitely brightened up my senior year at BHS. Being in her AP calculus AB and BC classes all year long, I have learned so much from her and have had so many fun times in her class.
Mrs. Lohmann has helped me to become a better writer and prepared me for college. Because of her classes, I am confident that I will succeed in my continued education.
Mr. Bonenberger has been an amazing yearbook advisor. From troubleshooting errors from working on the yearbook from home to constant communication, Mr. Bonenberger has continued to be a huge piece in our yearbook work. His passion for media rubs off on his students and the atmosphere in his classroom is always one that is encouraging.
Doctora Santilli has been a constant supporter of me throughout high school. I was so lucky to have her for homeroom, as she motivates me as a student and is willing to do anything and everything for every student that walks into her classroom.
Miss Edwards has been one of my biggest supporters since the beginning of my senior year. From scholarship details to words of encouragement, Miss Edwards always comes through with exactly what I need! My class is so lucky to have her!
Do you work? Tell me about your job.
I only work during the summer. This past summer, I was a babysitter!
Tell me some of your favorite things: Music, pastimes, teams, etc.
I love doing anything creative. Drawing, painting, cooking, baking, you name it, I enjoy it. Art is an outlet for me to decompress, unload stress, and to express myself. Spending time with friends and family is also something that I really enjoy. The people you love make life worth living, and with my people, there is never a dull moment. I also love to spend time outside. I like fishing with my dad, family nature walks, and the beach. My favorite food is ice cream!
Tell me your thoughts on the COVID-19 pandemic/school lockdown. How has this impacted you personally during your senior year? What, if anything, have you learned from this?
I never imagined that my world would get flipped upside down just two months before the most exciting time of high school. Things that I had been looking forward to for what felt like forever like senior prom, senior trips, and the last official day of school were stripped away before I had the chance to process what exactly was happening. The biggest lesson that I have learned from this sudden shutdown are to appreciate the opportunities that you are given every day, take nothing for granted, and always tell others how much they mean to you and how much you appreciate them.
March 13 was the last day I ever walked the halls of Bridgeport High School as a student, the last day my class was all together under one roof, and the last time I sat at a desk, learning in the high school classroom. I thought I had so much time left to give my teachers the proper appreciation for what they have done, but that time suddenly ran out. My advice for myself, and others, as time marches on is to let those special people know how much they have influenced you. Thank them for everything that they’ve done for you.
Despite an unexpected ending, the class of 2020 is resilient, thankful, and optimistic. We have cherished the events that we have been fortunate enough to preserve. We are thankful for the opportunity to have closure at our graduation ceremony in June. Most importantly, we know that we will get through this and that our futures are bright.
Tell me a little about your family.
My family is my everything! My mom, Barbara, is a writer-editor. She is my built-in best friend and my number one supporter. She enjoys going on nature walks, family movie nights, and spending time with family. My dad, Michael, is a lab-analyst at Advanced Graphite Materials. He has taught me so many things about life and staying true to myself. He loves hunting, fishing, riding his side-by-side, and jamming out to his favorite music. My sister Lauren is 14 and will be a sophomore at BHS next year. She never fails to make me laugh and is the best passenger seat DJ that I could ask for.
I am also blessed to have an amazing and supportive extended family. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are some of the biggest advocates for my success.
