STRONGIDEA: Prescription for a Healthier Snow Day

By Emily Stapleton on March 25, 2013 from Strong Ideas

A spring snow day can reap havoc on your motivation. By late March, we’re all ready for sunshine and blue skies. I, for one, am ready to move my workouts to the great outdoors.  So what can you do to make the most of a snowy day?  Whether you’re at work or at home, here are a few steps you can take to make your snow day healthier and more productive, even with a lack of exercise motivation:

• Hydrate.  Drink at least 64 ounces of pure, natural water today!  For more information on hydration, read this STRONGIDEA from January: Hydrate.

• Move to rev your metabolism.  Try to get at least some physical activity in today, even if it’s just walking up and down the steps a few times. To learn more about how movement affects your metabolism, click here: Metabolism: Move More to Burn More.

• Eat at least six times today.  This one should be easy.  Eating in regular intervals throughout the day regulates your metabolism.  So…Eat More to Burn More.

• Plan your workouts for the rest of the week.  Whether or not you actually workout today, this is a great day to plan your exercise for the rest of the week.  Need a little planning motivation? Here are The Top 10 Ways to Make Exercise Happen.

• Just breathe.  Deep breathing can provide benefits from relieving anxiety to aiding weight loss.  So take a few minutes on this snowy day to Just Breathe.

• Sit down to a meal at home with your family.  We all have to eat today, so why not Eat...Together.

I’m looking forward to warmer days, but until them, I’m going to take advantage of ways to maximize my snow day.  How will you spend your day?

Until next week,
Emily Stapleton
