WVDMV Looks to Eliminate Delays with Appointments
By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 16, 2026
While walk-ins are always welcome, West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is working to eliminate "busy" times by encouraging guests to make appointments for services which require a regional office visit.
The following tips can help you navigate your DMV experience and get more of your time back:
- The average wait plus service time at DMV regional offices across West Virginia is less than 30 minutes, without an appointment. With an appointment, it is even less.
- Same day appointments are often still available. You may save time by checking available appointments, even if you are already on your way to the DMV.
- Appointments take the guesswork out of which times are less "busy" by spacing the timing of guests across the business day. This keeps everyone moving, and avoids the bottleneck times when everyone guesses the same "best" time.
- Many DMV services are available online, and that list continues to grow. You can conduct your business on your computer or smartphone without an office visit.
- While appointments are being encouraged, walk in guests continue to be served. DMV offices have made efforts to create aesthetically pleasing settings, and offer entertaining content on the Motor Vehicle Network screens, to make a regional office visit more pleasant for each guest.
- Making an appointment can help you spend more of your summer in the great outdoors, enjoying West Virginia!
