WVU, Hokies Announce 3-Game Basketball Series

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 25, 2026

West Virginia University and Virginia Tech have agreed to a three-game series in men’s basketball, starting this season on Dec. 5, 2026, at Hope Coliseum.

In 2027-28, the two teams will meet at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia, and the third game of the series will be played during the 2028-29 season at the Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, West Virginia. A date for the game at Virginia Tech and in Charleston will be mutually agreed upon prior to each season.

West Virginia and Virginia Tech last met on Dec. 30, 2015, in Blacksburg with WVU coming away with an 88-63 victory. The two schools last met in Morgantown on Dec. 30, 2014, with WVU winning, 82-51.

The game in December will be the 80th meeting between the two schools. WVU leads the all-time series, 49-30, that began in 1921. The Mountaineers have won nine of the last 13 meetings in the series.

West Virginia has also finalized games against Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Dec. 1, and against Coppin State on Sunday, Dec. 13. Both of those games will be played at Hope Coliseum.
