Trio of Bridgeport High School Grads Represent WVU, City at Recent Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on December 10, 2024

When The Pride of West Virginia, The Mountaineer Marching Band, was in Manhattan recent to be part of the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, there was a bit of a Bridgeport flavor.

A trio of Bridgeport High School students were involved with the parade. The three graduates included Travis Pugh, Brady Hosaflook, and Mitchell Honaker.

The band traveled 400 miles to entertain spectators lining the streets of Manhattan, online viewers and television audiences. The parade is a Thanksgiving Day tradition across the United States and being invited to participate as a collegiate band is among the highest of honors. And this is not the first time for WVU.

For nearly 100 years, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has marked the official start of the holiday season. The parade is the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States, with its origins in 1924. The three-hour parade route weaved through Manhattan, ending outside Macy’s Herald Square.

It has been televised nationally on NBC since 1953.
