Clarksburg City Councilman Jimmy Malfregeot Shot in Early Evening; Suspect Arrested off Saltwell Road

By Jeff Toquinto on September 13, 2020

A man believed to be responsible for the late evening shooting of Clarksburg City Councilman Jimmy Malfregeot was arrested in Bridgeport, Chief John Walker confirmed.

The man, Antonio DeJesus acccording to Clarksburg Police, was tracked down by Bridgeport Police and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. Walker said the arrest took place just off Saltwell Road. DeJesus is a white male, his age and hometown was not available.

“We confronted him at the Exxon station there,” said Walker, talking about the Blackbear Express. “There was some resistance, but nobody was hurt, including the suspect. He wasn’t willing to go peacefully.”

Clarksburg Police also arrived on the scene. Clarksburg Police Chief Mark Kiddy and Deputy Chief Randy Hartley escorted the suspect to a Clarksburg Police cruiser. Photographer Ben Queen who was on hand to take the photos shown here, said the suspect was taken to the cruiser at 9:28 p.m.

The shooting took place on East Main Street, near the intersection of Joyce Street. The Harrison County 911 Media Log lists a "disorderly disturbance" taking place on East Main Street.at 7:11 p.m.

WDTV reported that the person “reportedly shot Malfregeot when he saw them trying to break into his car, according to multiple sources. The person took the car, along with a hostage, and took off, the sources said. They also said the hostages were let go.”

Police were seen early this evening near the above-mentioned intersection.

According to WDTV, DeJesus will be charged with malicious wounding and robbery. He was wanted out of the state of Deleware by the U.S. Marshals. Kiddy wasn’t able to say what he was wanted for Sunday night.
