Looking to Perhaps Get Unique Sporting, Other Items at Good Price? The Bridge Ready for Online Auction

By Jeff Toquinto on September 12, 2024

When The Bridge Sports Complex, today the Citynet Center, opened in June of 2021, the City of Bridgeport leaned on a consulting company – Sports Management Facilities (SFM) – to assist in getting things off the ground.

As is the case with many complexes the size of the Citynet Center, a lot of equipment was purchased prior to the opening. After several years, some of the equipment has not been used or has seen almost no usage.

During Wednesday’s meeting of The Bridge Advisory Committee, it was announced that a those items are going up for sale. And they will be going up in a manner the City of Bridgeport has been using since at least the early part of 2023.

General Manager Droo Callahan of The Bridge said the items in question will be placed on the government auction Web site govdeals.com. The items should be posted live to the Web site tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 13 when the first of two legal advertisements are posted regarding the auction, City Clerk Lauren Rogers confirmed.

“There are a lot of items that it is time to get rid of,” said Callahan. “…There are items that have been taking up space in storage and it will be refreshing to see those items go.”

Callahan and Rogers both said there will be a reserve listed on most of the items. However, Rogers said the city will not be giving the items away for nothing. Some of the pieces up for auction are still in their original boxes.

“We will have a clause where the city can deny a bid on an item with no reserve if deemed not nearly a reasonable offer,” said Rogers.

The auction will last on the items from Bridgeport until Oct. 10.

Here are the items:

•             5 Hands Shields (Football Training)
•             4 Stunt Shields (Football Training)
•             6 half rounds (Football Training)
•             6 little stunt shields (Football Training)
•             2 large tackle wheels (Football Training)
•             2 small tackle wheels (Football Training)

•             2 pitcher’s pockets
•             1’x1’ court squares
•             1 quarterback target
•             1 rapsodo
•             4 teamwork trekkers
•             1 hit trax
