Pair of Bridgeport High School Students Stepping Up as Summer Interns for City's Public Works Department

By Jeff Toquinto on July 15, 2024

The brutally hot summer has had a bit of its sting taken off for the Bridgeport Public Works Department thanks to the presence of a pair of interns.

Bridgeport Public Works Director Tiny Grimes praised the efforts of Aidan Carlson and Jack Brunett. The summer interns are both students at Bridgeport High School.

“They’re painting fire hydrants. After the testing is done on the flowing, they paint the color codes to make sure everything is in order,” said Grimes. “These guys take their time and they’re doing a great job.”

Grimes said Bridgeport Public Works has annually had two interns. This year, however, it almost did not happen.

“We had some people contact us there were interested, but when it came time to get started nothing panned out,” said Grimes. “There was a chance that we would be without interns this year.”

Instead, Carlson and Brunett arrived. Grimes said they were last minute additions that have proven to be among the best interns he has dealt with at the city for public works.

“We’re glad they did,” said Grimes. “The best thing is they have asked to come back again next year. We’ll gladly take them again.”
