Presley Carlyle, Aidan Sparks Address Peers as BHS's Senior Class Representatives at Senior Assembly

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 26, 2024

Addressing their peers at this past Wednesday's Bridgeport High School Senior Assembly, May 22, were Senior Class Representatives Presley Carlyle and Aidan Sparks.

The tradition of having two students speak during the assembly is ased on academics, character, and leadership as well as involvement in school, activities, and community. Carlyle and Sparks were chosen by the Bridgeport High School faculty.

Not surprisingly, both were named as students of the month earlier this year. Ironically. they were chosen during the same month. The following is the summaries of the Class of 2024 as Senior Class Representatives.

Aidan C. Sparks is the son of Suzann and Joshua Sparks.

He has two younger siblings Judah, 7th grade, and Alahna, 11th grade. Aidan has been involved in sports all throughout high school. He participated in Wrestling during his 9th & 10th year, Track his 11th grade year, and Football all four years of high school. Aidan was a captain on the football his senior year. Aidan received both the Columbian Club Academic Athlete of the year and the Columbian Club All County Defensive Lineman of the year his junior year. He also received the West Virginia Army National Guard Leadership Excellence Award. Aidan is involved in Key club, Model United Nations Club, and the National Honor Society. He is the elected treasurer of the Key Club; through Key Club and the National Honor Society he has dedicated himself to community service. He has assisted in the Loins Club Christmas Parade Pancake Breakfast, the Sleep in Heavenly Peace project, the Medbrook Children’s Charity at the Pete Dye Golf Course, and other projects.
Aidan also attended Mountaineer Boys State the summer of his Senior year. Mountaineer Boys State is a summer camp dedicated to teaching Leadership and Citizen values to West Virginia’s future leaders.

He has been part of honor roll for all four years. His junior year he took AP US History, AP English Language and Composition, and AP Statistics. He passed all 3 exams becoming an AP scholar. His Senior year he plans to take AP US Government and Politics, AP English Literature, Calculus AB and BC, and AP physics.

After high school, Aidan plans to attend University. He is undecided as to what University he plans to attend. He is undecided as to what to study in college but is considering something in the medical field.

Aidan is thankful for his family, his teachers, his friends, and his community. They have all helped get in the position he is today. The community has provided Aidan with many opportunities that he plans to take advantage of to the fullest extent.

In his future, he plans to give back to the community to better West Virginia as a whole and as a thank you to all those who have helped him along the way.

Presley Carlyle is the daughter of Jeff and Jennifer Carlyle and Kevin and Melissa Reid.

Presley has been a perfect honor roll student every semester at BHS, receiving her academic letters and lamps each year for her success and hard work. She was proud to be inducted into the National Honor Society her junior year and currently serves as the groups treasurer. Presley has taken numerous AP and Dual Credit courses and is on pace to earn over 28 college credits before graduating in May. Presley received national recognition earlier this year from the National College Board and was awarded the “National Rural and Small-Town Award” which recognizes students who score in the top 10% of test takers within their state.

Presley is an active member of Bridgeport High School and in the community. She is especially proud of her work in student government.  She served as vice-president of the Sophomore class and president of the junior class.  She has worked hard on the events she helped put on through Student Council such as class floats, running Homecoming events, fundraising and being chairman for the junior/senior prom. Presley received the “Outstanding Student Council Member” and “Outstanding Leadership and Service Award” as recognition for this work. Presley’s also a member of National Honor Society, Key Club and Girl-up. During her time at BHS, Presley has been so fortunate to work with various community service organizations such as Challenger League, Building Hope, Angel Tree, Honor Flight, and Shops for Tots.  Presley is a four-year member of the BHS Varsity tennis team where she currently serves as captain.  Last season Presley was awarded the Academic Achievement award for the highest GPA on the team. Presley was also a member of the Varsity Cheerleading team her freshman year.  She is also the 2023 Bridgeport High School Homecoming Queen and was immensely grateful to have been chosen by her peers for such an honor.

Last summer, Presley was proud to be selected to represent BHS at the American Legion Auxiliary WV Rhododendron Girls State Leadership Academy where she was elected as a senator.

In the summer Presley is a lifeguard at Bridgeport Country Club. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with close friends and family.  Presley is excited about the future, but hopes to make the most of these last few months at Bridgeport High School.

In the fall, she plans to study Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis in genetics at West Virginia University.
