The Market Place Sees Restaurant Shut Down, but Developer Says Eatery Showing Interest in Vacant Site

By Jeff Toquinto on May 21, 2024

While construction is still taking place and more new businesses are on the docket, the still growing development of The Market Place on Jerry Dove Drive has lost one of its businesses.

David Biafora of Metro Property Management, the developer of The Market Place, said that it recently lost a seafood restaurant and store. Biafora confirmed that Shrimpy & Snappy’s, which is located in the building furthest back from the main roadway and located just outside the city limits of Bridgeport, recently closed.

“It’s been more than a few weeks,” said Biafora. “I’m not positive, but I think business was just slow. It’s a tough business.”

The business opened in October of 2021. Among the many items offered was fresh seafood fresh from the Carolinas along with frozen snapper, shrimp, and other specialty items.

Unfortunately, this is the second seafood operation to cease in the same spot. Prior to Shrimpy & Snappy’s, Dock to Table Provision Company was there.

Dock to Table opened a storefront location there in December of 2019. It eventually shut down during the COVID pandemic.

The good news? Biafora does not anticipate the store front being vacant for a long time.

“We have somebody looking at the location pretty serious already,” said Biafora.

He would not comment on the name of the business as nothing is official. He did say it was a food business, but not what kind.

Shrimpy and Snappy's will be missed for sure! We loved their fresh salmon.
