Off the Shelf: Beat the Summer Heat by Taking a Few Hours to See What's Inside and Enjoy Your Library

By Savanna Draper on June 26, 2024 from Off the Shelf

We reached the first day of summer last week, and with it came a heat wave! When you think of beating the heat, you typically think of the pool, but libraries can be a sanctuary from the summer heat as well, offering a cool, comfortable environment for patrons seeking relief from the heat. There are several ways to make the most of the library during the hot summer months. Keep reading to discover what the Bridgeport Public Library can offer you during a heat wave (and anytime!)

Most obviously, we offer a cool environment with A/C and a water fountain to keep you cool and hydrated. Spend a few hours in our comfortable lobby or at our study tables to enjoy the cool air while you read, study, or work.

Take advantage of our vast collection of books, magazines, and newspapers. Find a cozy corner, grab a compelling novel or an interesting magazine, and immerse yourself in reading. It's a productive and relaxing way to stay cool and entertained.

For those who need to work or study, the library offers ample resources like free Wi-Fi, public computers, printers, and a fax machine. It's an ideal place to stay productive without overheating.

Join our Summer Reading Program and come to our wide variety of programs and activities. These activities are held in cool, air-conditioned rooms, providing both entertainment and relief from the heat for patrons of all ages. You might even learn something while you’re here!
Browse our Book Nook. We always have a fully stocked book sale room ready and waiting to be browsed. You might just discover a book you just can’t live without! We also often stock puzzles, board games, and DVDs.

You are welcome to just come in and hang out in our space as well! Libraries are for everyone, and we encourage anyone to come in, grab a book or magazine, connect to our free Wi-Fi, set up a puzzle or board game, or just hang out to avoid the heat!

Although the library might not be the first place that comes to mind to beat the heat, we promise that we offer plenty of things to keep you cool, entertained, and connected while you are here.
