Off the Shelf: Get Finances Back on Track at Library as January is the Official Financial Wellness Month

By Savanna Draper on January 22, 2025 from Off the Shelf

January is Financial Wellness Month. January is the perfect time to recognize this topic, because if you’re like me, you probably overspent during the holiday months and are looking to get back on track. It’s a great time to take a step back, focus on your financial well-being, and prepare to meet financial goals in the year ahead. Some things you can do during Financial Wellness Month include taking stock of your emergency fund, checking your credit score, reviewing retirement plans, tackling credit card debt, setting savings and investing goals, and creating a budget for the new year. Luckily, the Bridgeport Public Library offers resources that will make these tasks much easier!

Weiss Financial Ratings Series Online is a great digital resource that can be accessed for free with your Bridgeport Public Library card. This resource gives you the tools to protect your finances, invest wisely, grow your wealth, and learn more about your finances. It provides financial literacy basics for those just getting started as well as information on stocks and mutual funds for more seasoned investors. Check it out on our website at bplwv.org/business-and-finance.

If you’re looking for some reading material to jumpstart your financial goals, we offer plenty of that as well. Some popular financial literacy titles include Miss Independent: A Simple 12-Step Plan to Start Investing and Grow Your Own Wealth by Nicole Lapin, Crush Your Money Goals: 25 Smart Money Habits to Save, Invest, and Fast-track Your Financial Freedom by Bernadette Joy, Finance for the People: Getting a Grip on Your Finances by Paco De Leon, Invest Like a Girl: Jump Into the Stock Market, Reach Your Money Goals, and Build Wealth by Jessica Spangler, and Money for Couples: No More Stress, No More Fights, Just a 10-Step Plan to Create Your Rich Life Together by Ramit Sethi.

Of course, one of the best money-saving tools to have in your toolkit is a Bridgeport Public Library card. Why pay for books, movies, and video games when we have all of that and more to borrow for free!?
