Off the Shelf: Head to Thanksgiving with Family Menu Favorites or Head to Library for Cookbook Ideas

By Savanna Draper on November 20, 2024 from Off the Shelf

It’s almost time for one of the most fun and food-filled days of the year—Thanksgiving! Most of us have already established our go-to recipes or tend to stick to traditional, family favorites, but sometimes it’s fun to switch it up and add a new dish to the mix. Luckily, the Bridgeport Public Library is full of cookbooks that will help you do just that. Check these out and maybe you will find your new favorite Thanksgiving side or dessert!

The Squash & Pumpkin Cookbook: Gourd-geous Recipes to Celebrate These Versatile Vegetables by Heather Thomas includes recipes from spicy chutneys and hearty soups and curries to refreshing salads and delightful bakes. These versatile vegetables are not only packed with flavor, but are also full of vitamins A, C, and E and minerals like iron, zinc, magnesium, and potassium.

The Friendsgiving Handbook by Emily Stephenson is a short, sweet, and stress-free guide to celebrating Thanksgiving with friends. It features 25 delicious recipes that cover every part of a Thanksgiving meal such as Classic Roast Turkey and Garlic-Miso Gravy, Sautéed Brussels Sprouts with Pine Nuts, and Concord Grape Pie.

Autumn Gatherings: Casual Food to Enjoy with Family and Friends by Rick Rodgers includes a variety of mouth-watering, fall-inspired recipes including Dry-Brined Roast Turkey with Cider Gravy, Cornbread Stuffing with Dried Fruits and Hazelnuts, and Mashed Potatoes with Mascarpone and Roasted Garlic.

Sides for Holiday Entertaining: 60+ Delicious Thanksgiving Vegetable Recipes by Craig McMullen includes recipes for side dishes including single vegetable dishes, make-ahead gratins, terrines and purees, and souffles. This book also includes a Thanksgiving week planning guide that starts with purchasing and brining a turkey and finishes with a recipe for turkey carcass soup.

Taste of Home Fall Baking: 275+ Breads, Pies, Cookies & More! Includes recipes for cakes, snackable cookies, holiday pies, impressive tarts, and all the buttery breads you love most. Some specific recipes include Brie and Caramelized Onion Flatbread, Date and Walnut Pinwheels, Frosted Maple Cookies, Rustic Nut Bars, and Honey Pecan Cheesecake.

We hope you have a delicious Thanksgiving!
