Off the Shelf: It's National Library Card Sign-Up Month and Stop by Bridgeport's Location and Get Yours

By Savanna Draper on September 04, 2024 from Off the Shelf

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and the Bridgeport Public Library will be celebrating all month long! This is a great month to sign up for a library card if you haven’t already and take advantage of everything your library has to offer. If you do already have a library card, encourage your family and friends to get one too!

There are many benefits to being a Bridgeport Public Library cardholder. First, we offer a variety of services—and many of them for free! We offer free Wi-Fi and public computer access. For a small fee, we offer faxing, printing, scanning, and copying. We offer free notary services and passport services at the standard rate set by the Department of State, both by appointment only. We offer free technology help as well!

Second, we offer a plethora of programs for all ages. Every single one of our programs and events are completely free. We strive to offer programs that appeal to everyone in the family, from the youngest members to the grandparents. We add new programs to the calendar every month, but we also have many ongoing programs that occur on a weekly or monthly basis. Check out what we have going on at any time on our website, bplwv.org/events.

Third, of course, are our physical and digital materials—all for free! We currently have over 100,000 physical materials in our building for you to check out including books, audiobooks, DVDs, music CDs, puzzles, board games, video games, kits, and more! As for digital materials, you have access to thousands of eBooks and audiobooks, as well as several high-quality databases ranging from leisure activities to research. You can find all of our digital materials at bplwv.org/eresources.

Lastly, did I mention it is 100% free to obtain a Bridgeport Public Library card? I think that’s the best part! All you need to do is come in and provide a West Virginia ID to sign up for a library card. It doesn’t get easier than that! Our friendly staff are more than happy to get your set up with a card, show you how to access our materials and attend programs, and even give you a tour of our building.

And one more thing… This September, we have partnered with Market on Main in Bridgeport for National Library Card Sign Up Month. If you bring your Bridgeport Public Library card to Market on Main during the month of September, you will receive a free, homemade pepperoni roll. How cool is that?!
