Off the Shelf: Library Fun on Tap for August including BHS Alum Chuck Miller Reading His Children's Book

By Savanna Draper on August 03, 2022 from Off the Shelf

We will be hosting some fun programs for children, teens, and adults in August. Even though summer feels like it’s starting to wind down, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy before everyone gets back into the normal swing of things for the fall. Spend some time at the library, you don’t want to miss these programs!

We will hold two weekly storytimes beginning in August. Brilliant Beginnings, designed for ages 0-2, will be held every Wednesday at noon. Little Learners, for ages 3-6, will be held on Fridays at 4:00 PM. Both programs incorporate songs, fingerplays, and books. Young Wordsmiths, a program designed for teens interested in creative writing was held Wednesday, August 3rd at 4:00 PM. On Saturday, August 13th, featured Storywalk author, Chuck Miller will be at the library from 1:00 to 1:45 to read his children's book Will Little Roo Ever...?

Teens interested in 3D printing are invited to come to the library to design their own keychain and watch a demonstration on Thursday, August 18th from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Lastly, on Tuesday, August 16th, the library will be hosting a Back to School Bash. Patrons are invited to come learn about all the educational resources the library has to offer and interact with teams from Mountaineer Therapy Dogs. This program is for children, teens, and families.

There are also some fun programs lined up for adults. On Wednesday, August 3rd from 5:30-7:00 PM we will hold our first Adult Anime Club. This is for adult anime fans to come together, meet fellow adults, watch anime, and discuss related topics. Similarly, we will hold our first Adult Nintendo Switch Night on Wednesday, August 31st from 5:00-6:30 PM for adults to come play favorites such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate. We also have two STEM events for adults including Easy STEAM for Adults: 3D Printed Button on Friday, August 19th from 4:00-5:00 PM and Coding for Adults on Friday, August 26th from 5:30-6:45 PM. On Saturday, August 6th from 12:00-1:00 PM join us in welcoming Walt Disney to the library for our History Alive! Walt Disney program. James Froemel will be portraying Walt Disney as part of the History Alive! program by the West Virginia Humanities Council.

If you have questions about any of these events, please contact the library at 304-842-8248 and visit our website bplwv.org to register.

Editor's Note: Pictured is Author and BHS alum Chuck Miller reading his book "Will Little Roo Ever ...?" to his late daughter Ruby Miller, who passed away at an early age.
