Off the Shelf: Summer Reading Program Starts June 1

By Savanna Draper on May 18, 2022 from Off the Shelf

It’s almost that time again—our Summer Reading Program starts June 1st!

This year’s theme is Oceans of Possibilities. We have tons of great activities, programs, and ocean-themed goodies you don’t want to miss. Early registration started May 1st, but there’s still plenty of time to get registered. Patrons who register for the Summer Reading Program are invited to come pick up their Participation Tote Bag at the library on June 1st. All ages are invited to sign up and participate. This year’s sign-ups and reading logs will all be done digitally on Beanstack.

To join sign-up, you will need to visit bplwv.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack Tracker mobile app, available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and search for the Bridgeport Public Library. Then you’ll need to create an account and register for the Oceans of Possibilities challenge. If you have children you'd like to add, you can create a Reader under your main account for each family member.

They will need to register for Oceans of Possibilities as well. After registering, you will receive your first badge and will be eligible to pick up a Participation Tote Bag. Log your minutes read to unlock more badges and be sure to register and attend activities held at the library throughout the summer. The more badges you unlock, the more tickets you earn to be put toward our grand prize giveaway! We will have a random drawing for all sorts of prizes as well as our bigger prizes that you can put your tickets toward in Beanstack. All prizes must go, so as long as you're registered in Beanstack, you'll have a chance to win! If you have questions about Beanstack please give us a call or drop by and we will be happy to help.

We will be having tons of programs and activities throughout the Summer Reading Program which will help you earn tickets to win prizes. Some of our children’s programs include All-Ages Storytime, Discovery Days, Bermuda Triangle Escape Rooms, and Family Matinees Moana and Finding Nemo. Times and dates for these programs can be found at bplwv.org/events.

Some of our adult events include showings of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Heart of the Sea, Craft Events including macrame mermaid keychains, sea glass jars, ocean wave painting, book page sea urchins and ships, and a folk music concert by Andy & Judy. Times and dates for these events can be found at bplwv.org/events.

The Summer Reading Program will come to an end on July 30th when we will have our end-of-summer picnic from 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM! We'll be meeting at the Dogwood shelter in the City Park. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Come talk about what you read over the summer and play games. All prize winners will be announced at this event!
