From the Bench: Hoops Pair among Best Ever at BHS Combining to Do Big Things in College Basketball

By Jeff Toquinto on March 16, 2025 from Sports Blog

Fairmont State University’s spectacular season in women’s basketball ended this past weekend. The Falcons were upended in regional competition after winning the Mountain East Conference Championship.

The successful season that saw Fairmont nationally ranked for most of it was the result of FSU’s quality roster and quality coaching. The roster and the coaching both had a dash of Bridgeport High School in the recipe.

If you follow BHS sports, you know the names of the graduates – Miki Glenn and Gabby Reep.

Glenn, the associate head coach, is in her fifth year as a coach at Fairmont State. Reep, a 2023 graduate of BHS, is in her sophomore year at the Marion County school.

The pair participated in a season that saw FSU head into the MEC tournament ranked 19th in the country. They battled through the brackets and overcame a battle from Glenville State to pull away late for a 79-65 win to win the automatic berth in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA Division II women’s basketball championship at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania, about 15 minutes from Eerie.

And the team got there with more than just a national ranking. The club went 27-4 in one of the best seasons in recent memory for the Falcons.

As for Reep, she was the Falcons’ key catalyst off the bench. She did not start in any of the 31 games, but she played in all 31 games. In fact, she played nearly half of every contest going 18.5 minutes a night.

And while she was a dominant scorer and three-time Class AAAA first-team selection for the Indians, she did not need to be for Fairmont this year. The team, which will lose all but one starter, was filled with veteran college players.

That did not stop Reep from being essential. Used as a backup point guard to bring the intensity and run the show, Reep did just that. The 5’7 guard scored 5.2 points per game and averaged 3.4 rebounds per game.

“I was comfortable with my role. I kind of knew when the season started, I was expected to play around 20 minutes and night, focus on defense, and do that while getting reps at the point guard,” said Reep.

While her numbers are solid, Reep was a prolific winner and filler of the stat sheet at BHS. In her senior year, she averaged 21.9 points per game and added 8.7 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 5.2 steals.

The southpaw did not see it as a step back to not being asked to shoot at levels required in high school.

“It’s not needed with our team, and it was easy to adjust to, particularly this year getting more minutes,” said Reep. “I’m able to play so much harder on both ends of the floor because I was never subbed out in high school so I really and enjoying the role I had this year and will accept whatever role the team thinks I need to be in next year.”

Glenn is going play a big part in the transition to an even bigger part of the Fairmont State attack. Like Reep, she is a former BHS left-handed point guard who earned all-state honors and completely dominated during her time at Bridgeport. In fact, Glenn is arguably the most dominant player for the BHS girls’ program in its history.

Need proof?

As a senior, Glenn finished the year averaging 23.4 points per game. She also pulled down 7 rebounds a game and led her club in steals and assists with 4.4 and 5 per contest, respectively as she led Bridgeport to first, and only, state championship. She was also the state player of the year.

The team finished the year 25-2 and Glenn stepped up in the state tournament. There, she averaged over 30 points per game.

After that, any doubt on just how good she was would be eliminated when she played for California University of Pennsylvania. She captured a national championship, was a multiple time first-team All-American, and had a laundry list of school marks.

Miki Glenn was quality on the hardwoods. And she knows quality when she sees it.

“When I watched her play in high school, I thought for sure that is someone I could coach and fit in our offense with ease. She just moves so fluently with the ball and, as I noticed because I’m left-handed, she loves the left side of the floor,” said Glenn. “You add her athleticism to it, and how she was good at other sports like soccer, and we knew we had someone to work with. She hasn’t disappointed.”

While Glenn watched Reep in high school, the current Fairmont State player did not recall watching her coach. However, she knew plenty about Miki Glenn.

“I really wish I would have seen her play. I heard everything about how good Coach Glenn was, how good of a point guard she was and how dominant she was on some really good team,” said Reep. “I do know she’s a great coach and, not just because she’s from Bridgeport, but she’s a personal help to me because of her being a point guard. She is great teacher of the game.”

That teaching will be critical as it is probable Reep will take another sustained jump in activity in the 2025-26 season. She increased her minutes nearly four-fold from 4.7 minutes per game as a freshman to 18.5 this season.

“I see the roll expanding for her. She’ll be the lone point guard, so I expect a big jump. I expect her to run the show and that’s not an easy spot to be in with this coaching staff,” Glenn said with a laugh. “I expect big play from her.”

Glenn said the expectations are not without reason.

“If you see her in practice, she can score as much as she wants. It’s so cool to see her understand her opportunities are so different on this team and embrace it,” said Glenn. “She sees the game well; she sees the angles and the openings to fit things in.

“The one thing I emphasize to her is to attack the rim, because that will continue to serve her and the team well,” Glenn continued. “I know she understands her role this year, but I think you’re going to see a much larger role for her next year.”

Reep, an exercise science major looking to hopefully get into an occupational therapy school, said she is ready for it. More importantly, she is ready to put in the work needed to be ready for it.

“I’ve got to work on handling the ball when being pressured and driving strong to the basket with my right hand,” said Reep. “You also always have to put in more work on defense. I’m ready to put the work in.”

Glenn has all the confidence that will happen. And she wants to see one important thing that happened that a current Bridgeport coach brought out in her.

“She’s so competitive, and we want her to more of vocal leader, we want that drive to translate for her to be the team leader; I want her to be bossy running the offense. She has it in her and it can be brought out,” said Glenn. “(Former Bridgeport girls) Coach (Dave) Marshall made me learn vocal leadership. She’s getting more into that and when she’s there, it will be her full circle moment on the court. We’re expecting that, and we feel good she’ll deliver.”

The destination of the delivery is unknown. But with Glenn and Reep on board, we know a pair of the drivers are from Bridgeport.
