STRONG Idea: 12 Days of Fitness; Day 10

By Emily Stapleton on December 11, 2013 from Strong Ideas

On the tenth DAY OF FITNESS, my trainer gave to me

10 Stance Jacks
9 Burpees
8 Spider Man Push-ups
7 Squat Jumps
6 Push-ups
5 Squats
4 Jumping Jacks
3-V-crunches
2-Floor to Ceilings and
A 1-minute plank.

This is the tenth of a series of 12 posts designed to encourage you to meet the challenge of exercising for 12 consecutive days during the holiday season.  Need to start at the beginning? Click here.  Want to read more about the nature of the challenge? Click here.

Today’s exercise it called a Stance Jack.  In full disclosure, I stole this one from Shaun T of Insanity.  As you might have noticed, many of our 12 Days exercises are building on previous exercises.  Most of the exercises I teach are progressions of either a plank or a squat.  To perform a stance jack, start from a standing position with your feet together.  Jump your legs apart and drop your butt back into a squat position.  Reach one hand toward the opposite foot.  Jump your feet back together. Repeat, reaching with the other hand.  This exercise is done in a jumping jack type rhythm.  Watch the video for a demo.

Modification:  Instead of jumping to the squat, step one foot to the side and drop into a squat.  After bringing the same leg back in, repeat on the other side.  Make sure to bend both legs into the squat.  Watch the end of the video to see a demo.

Just Breath:  Don’t forget to take 3 deep breaths at the end of your workout today.  In addition, if you need a break at any time during the challenge (or your own workout), stop and take two or three slow deep breaths.  Again, you’ll be amazed at your recovery.

Tune in tomorrow for day 11 of the challenge…you’re almost there.  You got this!
