Meadowbrook Mall Business Victimized by December Fire Open for Weeks after Repairs and Site Cleanup

By Jeff Toquinto on February 06, 2025

Not even two weeks after a fire shut down its doors, a business at Meadowbrook Mall opened its doors once again.

Exotic Nails and SPA reopened Jan. 9, according to information from the Meadowbrook Mall. The business shut down due to a fire that took place on Dec. 29 at the Bridgeport retail hub.

The cause of the fire was determined to be towel warms placed against plastic cabinets. The fire was completely controlled and extinguished by Bridgeport Fire Department.

When the Bridgeport Fire Department arrived on scene, they arrived at an active fire alarm, sprinkler system activation and smoke in the building. The fire was located in the back rear corner of the business and had been contained by the sprinkler system but wasn’t completely extinguished.

Other businesses were impacted that day. Six businesses, as well as the Food Court, were closed for a brief period due to water runoff.

Bridgeport received assistance during the January call from the Anmoore, Nutter Fort, Spelter, and Shinnston Fire Departments along with the Anmoore EMS. It is part of the city’s mutual aid agreements with those entities.

Exotic Nails and SPA is located near the Meadowbrook Mall Food Court.

Editor's Note: Top photo shows workers with Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration on the scene and working on the entrance Dec. 29 at Meadowbrook Mall making way for what was a quick cleanup of the site to get the business open once again. Bottom photo, courtesy of Meadowbrook Mall, shows the entrance as it looks today.
