Quickly, Quietly, Long-Standing Business Located on City's West Main Street Meets Demise with Demolition

By Jeff Toquinto on May 16, 2024

In the next few months, the former Mike Kelley Appliance Repair on West Main Street and a residential structure on Water Street, both properties now owned by the City of Bridgeport, will be demolished.

However, another demolition took place in recent days and the cleanup is almost complete. And the demolition involves another former West Main Street business.

Recently, the structure that housed Plant the Seed (formerly Village Emporium) was taken down. The relatively small structure that consisted mainly of wood required a demolition permit of $2,000, according to Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr.

Plant the Seed, and its predecessor, served Bridgeport for decades out of the little structure. It offered, primarily, fresh produce, plants, and other miscellaneous items such a fresh honey.

The demolished property sits next to the new Mexican restaurant La Guadalupana Antojitos Mexicanos. The same LLC that did the renovation of the property that now houses the restaurant is the same LLC which is handling the demolition – Jaime Investment LLC.

The restaurant opened April 16. The demolition permit was issued a short time later on April 25.

Kerr said there were no definitive plans listed for the property, although she did say there was discussion of putting something on the small parcel of land. It could also possibly be cleared, paved, and used for parking.
